Greetings from Fracture Bay in the Southampton General Hospital.
On a Friday evening at the beginning of August, I was hurrying from the living room to kitchen, wearing new slippers, when I tripped on the kitchen mat, bounced across the kitchen floor and landed on my butt by the kitchen sink.
Found I couldn't get up as one leg didn't seem to work, and thought assistance needed (both best neighbours were away on holiday.)
So I worked my way on my butt to the hall and telephone to call emergency.
They weren't too long in answering with an ambulance manned by two young ladies.
They took one look at my leg and decided a stretcher needed.
I told them I was going to Canada on the Monday, and they told me that I wasn't going anywhere.
So I landed up here and was given a new hip the very next day.
It's the first time I have been a patient in hospital – so impressed with all the care, attention and dedication to healing that goes on.
Everything is so clean, and bed linen changed daily.
The staff has so much patience with their patients.
Thank the Lord for the NHS.
Anyway I'm doing very well.
Stunned by receiving all the beautiful cards from you.
So many, and the visits, and you seem to know what to bring me that I need.
Overwhelmed by your kindness and prayers.
Bless you.
They decided that I should go to Brownhill House for rehab at the time of writing this bit.
I've been here nearly a fortnight.
Gosh, it's just super here, except for all the painful times.
I'm enjoying myself.
Waited upon hand and foot, a room and bathroom to myself.
Very good food, and the staff so easygoing.
Nothing too much trouble.
Anyway, I just had to write and say hello, and thanks for everything.
Blessings.
