Do you or anyone in your family have any form of digital TV?
If not, from 21st of March next year you will get nothing at all, as from then the 'normal' analogue TV signal will be switched off in our area (one of the last to go).
To watch TV
you will need some form of set top box
(STB) plugged into your TV, these can be got for £25 upwards depending what facilities they have, and can be bought easily.
A bigger, potential issue, which is why I am writing now, is the aerial - this may not be good enough as it stands for digital TV, which means that even if you plug a STB in next year you might not get a signal.
An upgrade to an aerial costs £40 to £100, and I can recommend a good firm if needed. I suspect that once the switch off happens there will be a massive rush of people who need an upgrade (and an STB), and that prices will rocket and it will take some time to get it done.
It would be a very wise move to test your aerial now, to see if it works with digital.
I have got a very small STB that can be plugged into your TV for a quick 5 minute test to see if an upgrade is
needed, if not you know all you need to do is buy an STB early March next year.
I'd suggest you do this when convenient.
One slight rider to all this is that after the switch off, the signal strength may increase, which means that an aerial that fails now, MIGHT work after the switch off, so getting an upgrade now could be a bit of a gamble.
Thanks, Keith, for this
information.
Keith is happy to lend his STB, with simple instructions, if anyone wants to do a test - speak to Karen, Gary or Sheena.
