The What?
SAT is ‘The Southern Area Team’ - comprising the Bishop of Southampton (on the left of the photo), the Archdeacon of Bournemouth (under the middle of the umbrella - it was his first meeting), all the Area Deans of the Southern Archdeaconry (Bournemouth, Christchurch, Eastleigh, Lyndhurst, Romsey and Southampton), and, on some occasions, all the Lay Chairs of the Deaneries, and our administrative support staff, such as Nicky Chapman (in the middle at the front).
We meet about 6-8 times a year, sometimes as SAT, sometimes as the Southern Area Mission and Pastoral Committee (looking particularly at pastoral reorganisation of parishes), and sometimes with the Deanery Finance Chairs.
The SAT is a key support group for the Bishop and Archdeacon, and discusses all sorts of items which affect the life of the Parishes and Mission of the Diocese.
We travel around each other’s areas for our meetings (which usually include lunch - a very useful time for conversation, chatting and support) and on this occasion we were lucky enough to be invited to Bossington House in the Romsey Deanery - a particularly lovely venue!
The agenda is usually very full, and they are very useful and informative meetings.
