The Right Reverend Michael Scott-Joynt became the 96th Bishop of Winchester in 1995. He was previously Area Bishop for mid and north Staffordshire in the Diocese of Lichfield.
The Bishop of Winchester also sits as a member in the House of Lords and is Prelate of the Order of the Garter.
Within the House of Bishops, the Bishop has had particular responsibility and interest in the fields of Church and State/Monarchy, Marriage, and Gender; and he chaired the Working Party which produced Marriage in Church after Divorce in January 2000.
We will be saying farewell to Bishop Michael and Lou at a special Eucharist in Winchester Cathedral on Saturday 7 May at 11.00a.m.
There will be a Reception after the Service.
All are welcome to attend.
A collection will be made for a farewell gift to be given to Bishop Michael and Lou from the Diocese.
Cheques should be made out to Winchester Bishopric Official Expenses and sent to Miss J.C. Cockell, Bishop's Secretary, Wolvesey, Winchester, SO23 9ND.
Bishop Michael has been a very faithful and pastoral leader of the Diocese during all of his time here;
(I particularly remember how, at the end of a long day, late in the evening, he made a special trip to the Countess Mountbatten Hospice at Moor Green to visit Jim Hale in the last days of his life, and he made Mike Milburn's last week by calling in on him at the same time!), and he and Lou will be very much missed here.
We wish them every blessing for a long and happy retirement
