We began the meeting by reflecting prayerfully on seeing Jesus and being seen by him, and how we are challenged in our daily lives to see Jesus in others, and show them Jesus in our lives.
Within that context, we firmed up our priorities for the coming year (reported on last month) and continued discussion about Baptism policy.
A small group was set up to think further about that and make some proposals which will, we hope, enable people to experience the welcome and the challenge presented by Baptism in ways helpful to future growth.
We also heard about the proposal to make use of the E100 Bible Reading Scheme – described in more detail in another article in the magazine.
The Terrier (list of equipment) for St Mary's was accepted and signed by the church wardens – that for St Alban's is on its way.
We made preparations for the Annual meeting in April, looking at the accounts; the PCC's Annual Report; the Agenda, and amendments to the Electoral Roll.
We were told of changes to the SmartWater policy on theft of external metal insurance cover, due to the increase in the number of claims.
We learnt that our finances are in the red, temporarily we hope, while we wait for six months' worth of tax rebates.
We have also had large gas bills on account of the cold weather.
Various pieces of work have been accomplished: The Bishop of Southampton's Personal Assistant has moved into what is now the shared Parish Office (after a very satisfactory long overdue clear-out of the office and the choir vestry); there is progress on the replacement of Alban's statue; and the floor at St Alban's has been sanded and sealed.
The Local Covenant of Churches is moving towards becoming Churches Together in Swaythling, to include some of the newer churches in the area, and activities in Holy week will be carried out jointly with this wider group.
