From the February PCC Meeting

This page was uploaded on: Thursday 23 February 2012, at: 12:32 AM GMT

The February meeting began with a reminder of what Paul wrote to the Corinthians (1 Cor 13 and 14) about using our gifts to build up the church, with proper regard always for outsiders.

That was a good lead in to a discussion about Baptism policy in the parish, and how we might strengthen links with those who bring their children for Baptism, and encourage them to become active members of the church.

This was a preliminary discussion, in which members of the congregations will be invited to join in due course.

Together with that discussion, priorities for the year ahead will be to continue to work at bedding down the three 'prongs' (remember the prayers?) of visiting round the parish, developing small groups, and making use of lay leadership in worship.

In this anniversary year of the Authorised Version of the Bible, we have committed ourselves also to deepening our knowledge and use of scripture.

Undergirding all of these is our commitment to prayer.

In the housekeeping department, we were glad to hear that we ended the year with a small credit balance in the bank.

We heard progress reports on work at St Mary's church and hall, on replacing the fencing round St Alban's, and the satisfactory completion of work on the internal floors.

We agreed that office space in St Alban's should be made available to the Bishop of Southampton's PA, and that an extra telegraph post should be put in the churchyard at St Mary's to enable the Bishop to get a broadband connection.

What is a PCC?

The Incumbent and the Parochial Church Council consult together on matters of general concern and importance to the parish, including promoting in the parish the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical;

We shall be electing new members to the PCC at the Annual Meeting in April - why not stand for election?
