The Bells of St Mary's

Would you like learn to chime the bells at St Mary’s? Or to improve your technique if you do it already?

By request, Gary is doing a training session on Saturday, February 13th, 10.00a.m., for anyone who would like to have a go.

You don’t need great strength, just a bit of practice. Don’t be shy! Come along if you are interested.

Mission Coffee Mornings

The year got off to an excellent start with over £120 being raised at the Coffee Morning in January in aid of the Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance.

Special thanks to all of those who work behind the scenes, month by month, baking cakes, collecting raffle prizes, and setting up stalls - you all do a wonderful job.

In February, the Coffee Morning will be on Ash Wednesday, February 17th, 10.30a.m., in aid of our Deanery link with Busoga in Uganda - we have supported our partners in Christ there over many years.

Deanery News

At the beginning of February, we shall be hosting the Southern Area Team Meeting (SAT) in the Parish Hall. Jenny and the team will be providing lunch, and then first the SAT and then the Southern Area Pastoral Committee (SAPC) will meet until late afternoon. Thank you all of those helping to welcome Bishop Michael and the Committees.

The Revd Stephen Holmes was licensed as Priest-in-Charge of North Stoneham Parish in a splendid service in January.

And then, the following day, I met with the Churchwardens and Elders of the Parish of Lord’s Hill and Lord’s Wood to begin planning the Licensing Service for the new Priest-in-Charge there, the Revd Robert Sanday (Robert has been Chaplain to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Diocese for about the past 10 years, and has been to preach in both Churches here). We are very much looking forward to welcoming him.

That, for the moment, just leaves St Mark’s in Archers Road vacant, and progress is being made there towards appointing a new Priest-in-Charge.

Another priority is the new Deanery Mission and Pastoral Plan, which determines how stipendiary clergy are deployed within the Deanery, and which will need revision in the light of the availability of stipendiary clergy numbers.

We are beginning a consultation throughout the Deanery on the principles of this Plan, and our PCC will need to discuss this at some point in the coming months.
