| Pilgrimage to St Alban’s Saturday, June 21st |
Each year there is a Pilgrimage to St Alban’s Abbey in Hertfordshire, the place of the Martyrdom of St Alban, the first British Martyr.
We leave here at about 8.00a.m. in a minibus or car, depending on numbers, arriving at St Alban’s in good time for the Procession from the site of St Alban’s trial to the Abbey.
This is a splendid procession with bands, banners, 15’ tall models of St Alban and his companions and judges, children, clergy, and it is a very splendid sight.
At 11.30 there is the main Eucharist of the Day, at which the Preacher is the Revd Angela Tilby, theologian and well-known broadcaster.
After a picnic lunch, there is free time in the afternoon (or you can visit the Chariot Racing and Lion Taming!!), and Prayers at the Shrine of St Alban, for those who would like.
The day finishes with Evensong, with Bishop Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Reading, as the Preacher, and a Procession to the Shrine. We arrive home about 8.00p.m.
It is a wonderful day of prayer and celebration. Please sign the lists in Church if you would like to come.
