All Sorts Going on!!

June 2008

Lots of things have been and are happening at the moment:

HOPE08 at the beginning of May was a wonderful working together of three very different Churches in the area for the good of the Flowers Estate. You’ll see the statistics of how many people and volunteer hours were given, and there was a real buzz in the area.

At St Mary’s, there is a lot of work behind the scenes preparing for the restoration there - we have to stop the damp from getting in to the Church, so that the internal redecoration can be done, we hope to have a new heating boiler, and we have some work to on the Parish Hall to bring it up to scratch. Once the planning stage is accomplished, we shall know exactly what is needed - and then begin to raise the money to do it.

St Alban’s celebrates its 75th Anniversary this month. There is the Art Exhibition, and the Brahms Orchestral Day, and two main services of celebration: on June 15th, at 6.30p.m., there will be a 75th Anniversary Songs of Praise, with hymns and reflections on the past 7 decades at St Alban’s, and a look to the future.

Please invite anyone you know who has had connections with St Alban’s in the past to come to the Service. And on June 22nd, there will be the 75th Anniversary Patronal Festival Eucharist at 10.30a.m., with my predecessor, the Revd John Moore as Preacher, and followed by a Parish Lunch.

At the end of June is the Parish Fete at St Mary’s - all hands to the pump, please.

And on July 6th we shall be having a Visit Another Church Sunday - there will be no 10.00 or 10.30 Services on that day, and we are encouraging everyone to go in groups to experience worship in another Church. This is something we rarely get the opportunity to do, and I hope that we will discover something of what we appreciate about our worship here, and perhaps learn something new which we might incorporate here - see full details further one. So, lots going on - celebrations, service, worship, fund-raising, fellowship, learning - some of what the Christian faith is all about.
