Through Jesus Christ Our Lord

This May is the month of the Ascension. It should lift our hearts as Easter has lifted our hearts; for now Jesus enters the final stage of his life - at one with the Father, under no limits of earthly life, and able to bring us to the same eternal life.

In his earthly life Jesus exercised the powers of God - calling and commanding, judging and forgiving, healing and blessing. This authority impressed  those who saw his actions and heard his words; and some recognised that it was the authority and power of God. These ones became his followers. He brought God to them.

And at the same time he brought them to God. They knew that they needed to love and serve God, to worship him and live for him. They knew they failed in all these things, but saw that he did them all; and they found that with him, they too could begin to do them, because he carried them along. He brought them to God.
